Celebrating the Launch of the Max Planck–Yonsei IBS Center
The IBS Center for Nanomedicine hosted the Max Planck & Nature Day @Yonsei on November 3–4 to commemorate the launch of the Max Planck–Yonsei IBS Center (MPYIC), which opened last August. World-renowned scholars from the Max Planck Society—often referred to as the “training ground for Nobel laureates”—as well as three editors from the leading international journal Nature participated in the two-day event to discuss academic collaboration and the future direction of advanced science.
On November 3, Max Planck Day @Yonsei was held as the 2025 MPI–IBS Conference on Breakthrough Technologies for Nanomedicine. Five speakers from Max Planck Institutes specializing in medicine, psychiatry, and neuroscience, along with ten researchers from Korea and abroad, presented their latest findings on future medical innovation driven by nanoscale science and engaged in in-depth discussions.
In his congratulatory remarks, President Dong-sup Yoon stated, “It is a great pleasure to host such a meaningful event at Yonsei University, where world-leading scientists from the Max Planck Society have gathered to discuss the future of science. I hope this conference will reinforce our global research network and mark the successful beginning of MPYIC.”
On the following day, Nature Day @Yonsei brought together editors from Nature, Nature Materials, and Nature Nanotechnology, who introduced the journals and their editorial processes to the Yonsei community. Dr. Alison Stoddart, Editor-in-Chief of Nature Materials, gave insights into submission procedures, peer-review standards, and key considerations from an editor’s perspective.
A panel discussion followed, covering the future direction of science, the impact of AI innovation on academic publishing, and career pathways in scientific editing. Approximately 120 students and faculty members attended, engaging in active dialogue with the international editorial team.
The IBS Center for Nanomedicine launched the Max Planck–Yonsei IBS Center (MPYIC) last August in collaboration with the Max Planck Society in Germany and the Institute for Basic Science (IBS), aiming to develop pioneering nanorobots capable of precisely controlling deep biological tissues. Moving forward, MPYIC will continue to expand advanced convergent research and international cooperation, further strengthening Yonsei University’s position as a global hub for scientific excellence.
